Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, has disclosed that the team is still awaiting the fulfilment of the $100,000 reward and other pledges made by the Federal Government following their triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Speaking in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Ajibade stated:
“We have not received our money, but hopefully, it will be paid. All the promises made to us have not been fulfilled.”
Ajibade, who led the Nigerian women’s national team to clinch their record-extending WAFCON title, expressed optimism that the commitments would eventually be honoured.
After the victory, President Bola Tinubu conferred national honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on the players and technical crew. He also announced a $100,000 cash reward and a three-bedroom flat for each player.
At the reception held at the Presidential Villa, the President lauded the team’s “indomitable spirit of resilience, determination, and courage,” describing their success as a landmark achievement for the nation.
